For Current Instructors... 1. Finding a Substitute LCI for yourself: You wanted to teach at an event, you signed up as available, you were selected to teach, and now you can't do it...what to do? First, I want to show you that I value your time so I try to schedule two months ahead so you can best plan your teaching events. But life happens, we get sick etc... so once you know you can't teach at an event, let me know ASAP. You can call, email, or text me, I'll respond immediately to within 24 hours. If you haven't heard from me with 24 hours, try another form of communication to me --- text/email/call--- AND COPY DANI on it. Once you have done that, please reach out to fellow LCI's to find yourself a substitute. As you know, our events are busy and when we don't have a full staff, it is a lot of weight for others to pick up. That said, 99% of the time when this happens, once you talk with me, the problem usually ends there because I often know of LCI's who need training in that type of class or are looking for extra work. Any questions you have here, please let me know.
2. Who gets scheduled to teach a classes -here's how it works: -please be on time:) -bring bike and helmet for all on-the-bike classes ...FCR (family cycling rodeos), FCW (family cycling workshops), and Road classes. -wear your BEB shirt/bright/visible clothing:) -fulfill your booked classes/signups, if you can't, see above for how best to help find another coach:) -sign up to drive materials to class occasionally:) -sign up for classes that might not have a lot of sign-ups, in other words, everyone wants to do LTRs, but rodeos are important too:) -sign up to lead a class occasionally:) -be a solid team player, ask the lead that day what you can do, be proactive, make your teammates look good:) -be professional on the job:) -and lastly, please do admin/management side on time, turn in invoices on time, write/submit your bio for the BEB webpage:)
And a few last considerations: classes are all unique and in trying to have instructors able to meet students where they are at, it's good to have a diverse group of instructors so I can: -I try to schedule who lives there/works there has community connections there etc... -I try to provide growth opportunities for instructors while also recognizing experienced gained... so often I'll try to match an experienced with a new instructor at a class. -lastly, when scheduling, I do my best to take all considerations into account and so often it works for someone:) and other times it doesn't:( Rest assured, the idea behind scheduling is to create the most experienced and skilled instructor team for BEB overall. If you ever have questions please let me know, thanks Dan.
For Prospective Instructors:
Welcome and thank you for your interest. If you are interested in teaching with us please read through these steps and contact us, we'd love to help you join us!
If you have attended a LCI seminar and your LAB trainer asked you to complete some requirements in order to be certified, and you'd like to do that with BEB, welcome :) and please continue reading here... Choose a class from the BEB Education Class Spreadsheet (it's a Google sheet, ask me or Dani for access) and in the 'available instructor' column add 'your name-training.' I try to book all classes at least 1 month prior to their date so you 'll know well in advance if you have been booked for a class. If you are booked, your name will appear in the 'Instructors Booked' column for the class you signed up as available. Next, you'll be contacted by me or the booked lead instructor, a few days before the event to give you info on your role so you can prepare for the class. For on-the-bike classes, the information you'll want is the class protocol found on this website under the tab 'Class Protocols' and for classroom presentations, it'll be the powerpoint presentation, which we will send you access to at that time.
If you are already an LCI (you have your LCI number given to you by the LAB) and you'd like to teach with BEB, welcome :) and please read on here... To keep the quality of BEB instruction high so that we continue to receive lots of quality work opportunities, BEB requires you to coteach with me (Dan) at least once and afterwards we'll discuss the classes for which you are ready. Coteaching is paid and 1/2 the current LCI rate ($58/hr) so the coteaching rate is $29/hr. Here's how you sign up... choose a class from the BEB Education Class Spreadsheet (it's a Google sheet, ask me or Dani for access) and in the 'available instructor' column add 'your name-coteaching.' I try to book all classes at least two months prior to their date so you 'll know well in advance if you have been booked for a class. If you are booked, your name will appear in the 'instructors booked' column for the class you signed up as available. Next, you'll be contacted by me or the lead instructor for the class, at least a few days before the event, to give you info on your role so you can prepare for the class. For on-the-bike classes, the information you'll want is the class protocol found on this website under the tab 'Class Protocols' and for classroom presentations, it'll be the powerpoint presentation, which we will send you at that time. Please note, if you'd like to work on-the-bike classes (road, family cycling rodeo, family cycling workshops), then coteach at one of those.
Lastly, of course, at any point contact me if you have any questions. And, it is a process, so take it one step at a time and I do welcome feedback for making it simpler to get you happily on board:) Thanks! Dan
